About
Who’s behind valtu
Hi, I’m Hannah. I’ve been building valtu since May 2026, alongside looking after two tiny people. I’m starting from scratch, trying to solve a problem I think a lot of people have, learning a lot and shaping it as I go.
I spent the last eleven years in UK financial services at IG Group, a regulated fintech, and somehow I’ve still ended up thinking about tax in my spare time.
Why valtu exists
I had a lump sum to park short term and wanted the best cash rate for it. Working out which account would leave me with the most money took much longer than it should have. The headline rates publicised everywhere aren’t what you keep.
So I built valtu to close the gap between what you see and what you get, and to make it easier to work things out for your particular circumstances. It takes a rate, a balance and a tax band, and tells you what actually lands in your account.
How valtu makes money
Right now, it doesn’t.
No savings provider pays valtu, and there’s no commission on anything. Many places that compare savings rates earn a fee when you open an account, which means they are paid to tell you to move.
valtu is a no-frills information tool that shows how your tax position changes what you actually keep.
What valtu is not
valtu doesn’t give advice, hold your money or move it, so it isn’t authorised by the Financial Conduct Authority. It shows you arithmetic you could do yourself with enough time and the right figures.
If you want advice on your own circumstances, speak to a regulated financial adviser.
